Three years after, European publishers still stand and will keep standing with Ukraine!

Since the first day of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, European publishers have stood resolutely with their Ukrainian colleagues and the Ukrainian people. As we mark the third anniversary of the war, we reaffirm our unconditional support for Ukraine in its fight. During these years, Russia attacked not only Ukrainian's people and military and civil infrastructures, but also bookshops, libraries, and printers, aiming to undermine Ukrainian culture.

In the face of such destruction, we believe in the power of books as tools of resilience and hope. That is why Tales of EUkraine exists: to bring books to Ukrainian children and simultaneously support the Ukrainian book sector.

Thanks to the dedication of dozens of publishers across Europe—especially our partners in Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Ukraine—we have achieved remarkable goals over the past three years.

Since the launch of our project, 27 European publishers have published bilingual editions of the books in our catalogue, resulting in over 40 editions being made available. These commitments have led to the publication of more than 150,000 bilingual books, distributed to Ukrainian refugee children in various European countries, helping them to learn new languages, find comfort in literature, and maintain a vital connection to their homeland.

But the story of Tales of EUkraine is not over yet. By the end of our project, we aim to distribute 300,000 books to Ukrainian children, ensuring that even more young readers have access to stories that sustain their cultural identity and enrich their futures.

Stay with us on this journey! We have exciting events planned, including in-person events at the Bologna Children's Book Fair and the Frankfurt Book Fair. And of course, we'll keep you updated on all our activities!

About Tales of EUkraine

About the project Tales of EUkraine (TEUk) is an opportunity for European publishers to support their Ukrainian counterparts and to display their solidarity to the most vulnerable victims of the conflict by doing what they do best: publishing books. This project will bring together European and Ukrainian publishers to deliver bilingual children’s books to several communities hosting Ukrainian refugees, fostering integration and mutual understanding. TEUk has built a catalogue of Ukrainian children’s books available for publishers to acquire the rights to and publish them in bilingual editions. The project partners will purchase the part of the print run to be distributed to displaced children and organise its distribution to the Ukrainian refugee communities, whilst publishers will be invited to promote the book to their national communities. TEUk will facilitate the integration of Ukrainian children in their host countries, increase the knowledge of Ukrainian culture across the ...
